When soil becomes too wet, too dry or is poorly compacted underneath the home, it becomes weak and can no longer support the weight of a heavy concrete slab. This is what causes the slab to sink and settle causing a trip hazard or large gap in the floor. The concrete slab now needs additional support to prevent further settlement.
