Concrete starts out durable, rigid, and weighty, making it a great material for residential patios and driveways to warehouse floors. Over time, the level soil underneath the concrete begins to shift with changes in the moisture content in the ground. Soil movement causes voids under the concrete and because concrete is heavy, it starts to sink. Because it’s rigid and inflexible, it starts to crack. Soil movement occurs in a variety of ways, including:
Soil movement is bound to occur, but the damage sunken concrete leaves behind doesn’t have to be permanent. Trusted concrete leveling solutions can easily help resolve such issues.
Mudjacking, also called slab jacking, is a well-known technique for lifting uneven concrete to a level position. Compared to using foam to lift and level concrete, mudjacking has several drawbacks that Durham homeowners should know. One major disadvantage is that mudjacking doesn’t address the underlying causes of sunken concrete. It's also messy and disruptive and often damaging to property and landscaping.
If you notice your concrete starting to crack or settle, don’t wait for it to get worse! Call your PolyLevel® concrete leveling expert serving Durham, NC and nearby towns. To permanently lift and restore your concrete, schedule a free estimate today!

Comment: I have a brick 1970s ranch with a large carport (probably 25x25 ft). It has a crack in the slab and half of it has sunken down about one "brick height" due to slow erosion/water intrusion underneath. On the North side of the carport there is a finished basement. On the East side of the carport, there is an attached shed with a small crawlspace underneath that is about 8ftx15ft. The crawlspace has evidence of standing water and high humidity. I am not sure if the carport sag and the crawlspace water are related but I am betting they are. I need someone to reinforce under the concrete slab and lift it, and remediate the crawlspace water/humidity issues.
