Unfortunately, there is no real way to prevent your concrete slabs from sinking and cracking. That’s because the problem isn’t your concrete, it’s the soil beneath.
The weather & expansive soil:
Weather patterns and expansive soil play a major role in your concrete’s health. When you experience long periods of rainfall followed by droughts in Grand Island, Nebraska, the soil beneath your concrete slabs can shrink and expand. When this happens, concrete shifts and settles. This concrete settlement often leads to cracked and sunken concrete slabs.
Other causes & signs of concrete damage:
Concrete is strong, but it's not indestructible. Concrete is often poured over recently backfilled soil around a home after construction. This loose soil settles over time, creating a void under the concrete. Another common occurrence is erosion of soil under the slab. As water seeps down through the cracks and joints in the concrete, it washes the soil out as it passes through. These voids cause your concrete to shift and settle, creating hazardous cracks and uneven surfaces.
Mudjacking is a well-known solution for lifting uneven concrete back to level. However, mudjacking has several drawbacks compared to concrete lifting foam. The major disadvantages of using mudjacking or slab jacking to repair sunken concrete in Grand Island are that it’s messy, disruptive, and doesn’t solve the underlying problem.

Permanently lift and stabilize your concrete slabs today with one of our PolyLevel® experts in Grand Island, NE. Project Location: Grand Island, NE 68801
Comment: 60 feet of sidewalk that is 4" thick and 30" wide needs lifted 2" to 3" on the east side so the pads tilt slightly west allowing dirt to fill in between sidewalk and house (approx. 19") and splash the dirt line off the roof to the west. Each fracture line will be cut before you begin if required. When you complete a drain tile will be placed to the downslope part of the pads and fill dirt brought in to lever the area between the lifted edge and house. This will resolve water in the basement and pool of water forming during rain. I can send pictures upon request.
