Concrete starts out durable, rigid, and weighty, making it a great material for residential patios and driveways to warehouse floors. Over time, the level soil underneath the concrete begins to shift with changes in the moisture content in the ground. Soil movement causes voids under the concrete and because concrete is heavy, it starts to sink. Because it’s rigid and inflexible, it starts to crack. Soil movement occurs in a variety of ways, including:
Soil movement is bound to occur, but the damage sunken concrete leaves behind doesn’t have to be permanent. Trusted concrete leveling solutions can easily help resolve such issues.
Mudjacking, or slab jacking, is a concrete leveling solution that requires the demolition and replacement of an entire slab of concrete, a procedure that is time-consuming and expensive, not to mention disruptive to the property. PolyLevel® two-part foam expands instantaneously upon injection beneath a settled slab. The injection holes that our contractors drill through the slab are small and much less noticeable than those required for a typical mudjacking procedure. During the injection process, PolyLevel® expands many times its original volume and gains density, forcing the sunken concrete back to its initial level. It takes only a matter of minutes for the polymer to expand and reach more than 90% of its firmness!

Comment: An addition of approximately 1300 sg.ft. on a slab with piling support was completed in 2001. I suspect that the slab and pilings may be tied together! It was attached to the original house on the other side of the existing carport. This forms a "U" shaped house. The main structural attachment is through the roof structures. The corner of the addition is dropping causing separation from the original structure of about 1 1/2 to 2 inches. There are cracks in the tile flooring, doors out of alignment and separation of sheetrock in the addition. There are indications of the pull on the original structure by the addition, especially in the vaulted ceiling of the living room. The far end of the addition is about 20 ft. from the water of a lake. The movement started about three years ago when we experienced two years of drought and the water in the lake was very low.
